BSF plane lost contact with ATC after attaining 500 m
BSF Director-General D K Pathak said a a team of six engineers was going to rectify a technical snag which had developed in a plane while it was on the way to Ranchi base, when the accident occurred around 10:00 hrs. “Why only soldiers get killed in such accidents and it never happens to VIPs”, she asked as soon as Singh began meeting the families after paying tributes and placing floral wreaths on mortal remains of the victims.

The victims were identified as chief pilot and Deputy Commandant Bhagwati Prasad Bhatt of BSF, Rajesh Shivrain, co-pilot and second-in-command of paramilitary SSB, Deputy Commandant D Kumar, Inspectors Raghvendra Kumar Yadav and S N Sharma, Sub-Inspectors Ravindra Kumar, Surendra Singh, C L Sharma, ASI D P Chauhan and Constable K R Rawat.
A composed and moist-eyed Home Minister consoled the young woman and assured her that their grievances would be looked into as he said he would review each and every aspect that they had underlined.
“This is worrying, for us and everyone who is associated with this wing”.
The plane was over 20 years old.
Mr Pathak maintained that the Superking B-200 aircraft was “technically perfect” when it took to air yesterday even as he fully empathised with the anger and grief expressed by the family members of the ten killed personnel who have accused the government and the paramilitary of using “old” aircraft. Any aircraft is not considered old and its required parts are changed time to time. The plane was inducted in 1995 and had a long life ahead. I visited family members. I travel in that only.
Rijiju also said that it would not be correct to describe the ill-fated plane as “old”. “It was completely air-worthy…Even until two days back the aircraft returned after a good duty”.
The small BSF plane ferrying the force’s technical personnel to Ranchi crashed near Dwarka and burst into flames just outside IGI airport shortly after takeoff killing all 10 people on board. “We saw the plane spiralling and crashing down near the wall where some labourers were working”. The closest residential settlements were about 1 km away from the crash site.
The aircraft lost contact with the Air Traffic Control, at 9.50 am, they had said. Minister of State for Civil Aviation Mahesh Sharma said the government had ordered an inquiry. The aircraft hit the wall of a sewage treatment plant just outside the airport boundary, a member of the fire services on the scene said.

Pathak said the BSF air wing has always made the best effort to ensure flight safety.
