Arch rival Samajwadi Party, which can not see eye to eye with the BSP, however, has sided with Mayawati on the issue of women’s dignity and Dalit honour, at least publicly, and said that the former BJP leader would be brought to book.

A large number of party workers had gathered across the area to demand action against Dayashankar Singh.

TAKING note of the derogatory remark by BJP leader Dayashankar Singh against Mayawati, the ruling Samajwadi Party in UP on Wednesday said “appropriate action” will be taken against him by the State Government.

“Everyone calls me behenji or sister even in the parliament”, she said. Mayawati and three other BSP leaders were named in the FIR.

The BJP said that the protest will be in favour of Dayashankar’s daughter. He said the use of words by the BJP leader only reflected his mindset and a case should be registered against him under laws on atrocities against SCs/STs.

The decision to suspend Singh was taken by BJP president Amit Shah, informed sources said.

Derogatory comments by the BJP’s Dayashankar Singh has renergised BSP supremo Mayawati ahead of the UP assembly polls.

Reacting to the news of FIR, Senior BSP leader Nasimuddin Siddiqui asked, “What wrong has BSP done?”

Pathak said as the Singhs family members have expressed threat, they should be provided proper security.

Daya Shankar Singh caused widespread outrage earlier this week by characterising Mayawati’s ticket distribution for her party as worse than the conduct of a “prostitute”. “It is about the integrity of women”, she said.

Asserting that till date she was hearing cruel comments regarding her husband’s fate by BSP members in broad daylight, she added that she and her daughter were not being spared as well and had been dragged into the politics.

Singh’s wife alleged that BSP activists were openly asking people to call her and were abusing her 12-year-old daughter.
