Ms Mayawati’s party had also filed a police case last evening against Dayashankar Singh, who was seen on camera comparing Ms Mayawati to a prostitute in comments that are too offensive to be reproduced verbatim. Even the ruling BJP denounced the statement made by their leader, with Leader of Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley personally expressing regret.

Police said security at Singh’s residence has been strengthened in the wake of the protest call.
