Buccaneers waste no more time, promote Jameis Winston to starting quarterback

The top overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft Jameis Winston was named the Tampa Bay Buccaneers starting quarterback, according to a report from ESPN. These next few weeks will obviously be a lot of learning for him, but Winston also has a lot to prove to his new team. O’Leary had 81 receptions, over 1,000 yards and 13 TDs with Winston throwing to him the past two seasons.

The quote is noteworthy only because it’s the first time Smith has bluntly stated Winston would be the starter.

Winston was not made available for comment Friday, when veterans reported for training camp at the Bucs practice facility. Winston clearly has more talent, but Glennon does have two years of NFL experience and familiarity with the Bucs players. “It’s what we already knew, what we saw in camp, what he has done on and off the field here”. The same was true last season when he appeared in six games and threw 10 touchdowns and six interceptions. Jameis doesn’t need a mentor, all right. “Jameis doesn’t need a mentor”.

Tampa Bay went 2-14 last season, which was the first under Smith and general manager Jason Licht, but Smith is confident the rookie will turn things around for a playoff-hungry franchise that hasn’t clinched the postseason since 2007.

Jameis Winston will be our starting quarterback, he’ll take the first reps tomorrow, “Smith said”.

“A lot will be talked about the quarterback”. Bowers is still only 25 years old and has lots of potential with a good chance of making use of it. He can be a key to the defensive line and a good rotational player.
