Stars including Kylie Minogue, Helen Mirren and Gary Barlow gathered on Sunday (15May16) for a celebration marking Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday.

The Queen’s daughter, Princess Anne, and son Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex, along with her granddaughters Zara Tindall and Lady Louise Windsor got into the saddle as part of a birthday parade.

The Queen is having a massive house party at Windsor Castle, with an extravagant show including 900 horses and 1,500 performers including riders, musicians and dancers.

The Queen’s birthday was on 21 April, and formal celebrations will take place next month on her official birthday.

Elsewhere during the show, unsaddled horses were led in formation by the horse whisperer Jean Francois Pignon, who made a small white pony walk on its two hind legs.

A royal cavalry from Oman and displays from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police added to the worldwide flavor of the ceremony along with other troupes.

A major part of the Queen’s life has been her role as head of the Commonwealth – the 53-nation organisation known as “the family of nations”.

It is expected to close with a show-stopping performance by Dame Shirley Bassey of Diamonds Are Forever followed by a rendition of happy birthday.
