Bucks land free agent big man Greg Monroe

The Bucks and Middleton came to agreement early Wednesday, a few hours after the free agent market opened.

The Milwaukee Bucks could not land center Tyson Chandler in free agency from Dallas, but they have the next best thing. All last season I watched Bucks games and constantly thought to myself, “man, imagine if this team had a true center”.

The player option means Monroe could opt out and get a massive raise in 2017, when the cap will have skyrocketed even higher than the 2016 hike. The 6-foot-11 forward only attempted 78 shots all season from outside of the paint, according to Yahoo Sports. The addition of a player of Monroe’s caliber would make them that much more threatening.

Needless to say this is HUGE news for a Milwaukee franchise just a year removed from a franchise-worst 15-67 record and looking to make waves following a 41-41 season under head coach Jason Kidd.

Detroit Pistons’ Greg Monroe, left, looks to shoot past Boston Celtics’ Jared Sullinger, right, in the first quarter of an National Basteball Association basketball game in Boston, Sunday, March 9, 2014. The Buck’s young core has already been mentioned and how exactly how have these teams acquired such promising young talent, the National Basteball Association draft.

The deal, which can not become official until the National Basteball Association free agent moratorium ends on July 9, reportedly is worth $50 million over three years.

Michael Carter-Williams will be in the backcourt with Middleton.

Many expected him to return, particularly since he was coming off such a strong season. Collectively, the Bucks will produce a solid starting lineup. In Milwaukee, Monroe will provide a more reliable inside presence for a Bucks team that often struggled to score.

Instead, Milwaukee availed itself of guys from the second or third tiers of free agency, serviceable players such as Drew Gooden or Bobby Simmons or Tyronn Lue who weren’t difference makers. His signing could lead other notable forwards to sign with new teams.
