Buechele and Swoopes Shock No. 10 Notre Dame, 50-47

To those Irish fans sickened over Sunday night’s wild 50-47 double-overtime loss at Texas and now waving bye-bye to any chance for a national title, step back, take a deep breath and exhale slowly. He led the Longhorns with a team-high eight tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss.

Texas head coach Charlie Strong calls to his players during the second half of an NCAA college football game against Notre Dame, Sunday, Sept. 4, 2016, in Austin, Texas.

“It’s what they’re programmed really to do”, Kelly said of being resilient. They are both fine, Kelly said. If we’re 10 games into this and we’re giving up 50 points a game, I’ll have to answer your questions. Brown ran up to hit and slapped him to get him in position at one point.

“I mean it’s the first game, and you go into the first game and there’s a lot of uncertainties”, Kelly said.

With a defense that gave up 444 yards and at times looked utterly confused, the Longhorns might not be able to overcome the offensive firepower of several of their opponents, namely Oklahoma, TCU, and Baylor. “They get to know you as a person and know what you like and they try to get to know your family members and all of that, everybody that’s involved with your process”. “It’s going to take some time, but they’re athletic kids that will continue to develop and we’ll get better each and every week”. The duo combined for 120 catches, almost 1,500 yards and nine touchdowns. Aside from the interception, Buechele didn’t look like a freshman out there last night as he guided the offense to a score on his very first series with a touchdown toss to Armanti Foreman. Off long balls, Buechele threw a 72-yard touchdown pass to John Burt, a 68-yard completion to Jerrod Heard that came up inches shy of a TD and an on-target throw that would have been another cross-country score had Burt not dropped it.

Notre Dame’s Brian Kelly is among those college football coaches who prefer not having their players’ names stenciled on the back of their uniform.

Fortuna noted safety Avery Sebastian is also in the concussion protocol.

Torii Hunter Jr was knocked out of Sunday’s game on what appeared to be a clear cut case of targeting in the end-zone. The 44-37 lead was short-lived, as Kizer completed a screen pass to receiver C.J. Sanders to send the game into the second overtime.

A couple of bright spots on offense were sophomore receiver Equanimeous St.

– How did senior running back Tarean Folston play in his first game back from a torn ACL? The Irish fell behind 31-14 with 9:15 left in the 3rd quarter but that’s when the defense clamped down and did not give up another point until there was 3:29 left in the game.

Kelly said he had “heated” discussions with game officials asking why the play wasn’t reviewed for a possible penalty.

Notre Dame-Texas was an instant classic. He is embracing the opportunity, saying, “Who wouldn’t want to play in front of Touchdown Jesus?” You aren’t looking for a long-term thing, but after taking two overtimes to beat the number ten ranked Notre Dame over the weekend in what could be the most exciting game you’ll see all year, and getting into the Coaches (number 20) and AP (number 11) polls for the first time in two years, the Longhorns are officially good again. Armed with even more talent in South Bend, Sanford’s group will be a handful for the Wolf Pack.

While some of Notre Dame’s preseason concerns showed up, there were also expected strengths that let the Irish down at times.
