Buffalo Bills cut linebacker Manny Lawson

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) A person with direct knowledge of the decision confirms to The Associated Press that the Buffalo Bills have cut veteran linebacker Manny Lawson. The Bills also have released fullback Jerome Felton, a source told Schefter.

On Thursday, Bills coach Rex Ryan said that “it might be hard” to keep fullback Glenn Gronkowski from making the team and joining his brother in the AFC East this season.

In all, the Bills released 21 players Friday as they trimmed their roster to the 53-man limit.

Lawson’s release comes as a surprise because the 10-year National Football League veteran was projected to start in place of injured rookie first-round pick Shaq Lawson.

With Shaq Lawson not able to return until at least Week 7, the Bills now appear poised to move forward with veteran Lorenzo Alexander starting on the outside.

The Buffalo News first reported last month that Lawson is the subject of an NFL investigation into an alleged domestic incident, and faces the possibility of a one-game league suspension for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.

Lawson, 32, is entering his 11th season in the NFL.
