Buffalo Bills Will Cut DE Mario Williams
The report did not specify when Williams would be cut, but said the Bills’ game against the New York Jets on Sunday would be his last with Buffalo.

Neither seems particularly pleased with the situation now, however, and the Associated Press reported Thursday that the Bills plan to release Williams during the offseason. The move will save the Bills close to $13 million in cap space. According to an anonymous Bills player who spoke to Tyler Dunne of the Buffalo News, it was clear Williams had “checked out” when he refused to take part in a conditioning test before training camp.
Williams, who turns 31 in January, is set to make an $11.5 million base salary next season. The Bills, sadly, will not have a winning season and only have had two since 1999.
Even if Williams wasn’t the terrible fit that he is in Ryan’s defensive scheme, his contract consumed far too much salary-cap space. Pegula’s statement, which effectively said Whaley and Ryan aren’t going anywhere despite calls from fans and media for one or both to be fired, included this operative phrase to that effect: “This stable foundation is necessary to achieve long-term success in the National Football League”. “Those discussions, all those type of discussions will be better served after this game”. During his time with Buffalo, Williams has been named to four Pro Bowls and was a First-Team All-Pro in 2014. He sat out in Week 12 against the Chiefs because of a foot injury but has failed to record a tackle in six games this season – including last week against the Cowboys.
Still, it’s clear there has been a disconnect between what Ryan wants to do defensively and how Williams envisions himself as a player.

Coach Rex Ryan’s system is to blame as the primary pass rusher, Williams, was asked to occasionally drop back into coverage, a task the master sack artist has never ever done in his career.
