That’s why even the awe-inspiring Veyron can be subjected to a recall.

In a recent announcement, bigwig French automaker Bugatti has announced that it is recalling 85 of its million-dollar Veyron 16.4 supercars in the US.

Bugatti is recalling 87 2006-’10 Veyron, 2010-’12 Veyron Grand Sport and 2011-’13 Veyron Super Sport vehicles because the underbody aluminum reference plates used when lifting the vehicle may corrode and detach from the vehicle, NHTSA said.

The second issue affects 72 cars from the 2006-2010 models and the 2010-2011 Veyron Grand Sport models. As such, the underbody aluminum jacking plates will be riveted and sealed, free of charge for the owner. The fuel gauge problem was solved in 2010; while the battery cable issue was solved in 2007.

Bugatti told federal safety regulators that a auto ran out of fuel during a final test drive in production at the end of 2009 and “this has also been experienced in the field”.

The positive battery cable and the connector for the alternator may corrode in the affected Veyrons which could increase the risk of fire.

No accidents or injuries have been reported as a result of any of these issues. We imagine most Veyron owners would prefer to not have their cars catch on fire – they would have bought a Ferrari or a Lamborghini if they wanted that to happen.

The issue affecting these cars sees the fuel gauge may indicate that there is the fuel tank than there actually is. A corresponding control unit will be replaced and its software will be upgraded to remedy the issue.

The other 13 cars, the ones that could be affected by the battery cable corrosion at the alternator, were made between October 3, 2006 and December 22, 2006.
