Who knew whether President Buhari chose him for his loyalty? They are asking for the citation and resume of the 21 nominees to ensure “due diligence”.

He said at the end of the screening exercise, Nigerians will appreciate the modality the Senate used in screening the nominees such that square pegs would be put in square holes.

“Shittu is not only a disciplined legal icon, but also a politician with unblemished records of public service”.

“We are doing our utmost best to encourage diversification into these sectors which can employ a lot of people and we will welcome your support in this regard”, he said.

Fayemi’s nomination received applause in Ekiti yesterday. Kemi Adeosun (Ogun),
Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu (Ebonyi);
Ahmed Musa Ibeto (Niger), Ibrahim Usman Jubril,
Hadi Sirika and Udoma Udo Udoma (Akwa Ibom).

Confirmation of the ministerial nominees will run in the Senate of the Federal Republic from 13th to 15th of October, 2015.

Melaye, however dismissed reports that the Senate will screen President Buhari on the basis of appointing himself as the Petroleum Minister.

Other nominees include the former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola and Lieutenant General Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau. “I think that’s the best thing for us to do”, said Senator Robert Boroffice, a member of Buhari’s party.

“We should delve into it, no matter who is involved. It could be part of the change”.

The President called, however, for the speeding up of the processes of investigation, prosecution and repatriation of Nigerian funds stolen by corrupt public officials and their accomplices. It’s not worth the waiting. “Well”, Ken replied, “whenever I look up, all I see are kangaroos”. “So, he (Buhari) didn’t need to spend all this time to bring to us names that we already know”.

“I want to use this opportunity to disabuse the minds of rumour mongers”. If he will be a good minister in President Buhari’s cabinet, he has to work with others as a team. “It is only product of imagination”, he said.

At the formal presentation of the initial 21-nominee list yesterday, the Minority Leader, Sen.

It was gathered that Lai Mohammed was led by Tambuwal to Saraki on Monday night at his Maitama, Abuja residence.

While disagreeing with the leaders of APC in the state as represented by Chief Akin Oke and Mr. Mojeed Olaoya, chairman and secretary of the party respectively, who signed the newspaper advertorial announcing the rejection, the groups described the move as bad politics.

He however acknowledged that the list contained a few distinguished personalities.

Ita Enang, disclosed that he had initiated contact with PDP Senators as part of his duty to reach out to all sections in the National Assembly.

“This is a new beginning”.

The nomination of the current chief of the NNPC does not come as a surprise.

Let me recall a short dialogue the late environmentalist, Ken Saro-Wiwa, had with one of the judges that sentenced him to death.

He said: “Why did it take the President four months to come up with these names? So, to that extent I was pleasantly surprised”. The list is representative of all Nigeria’s regions.

After the ministerial list had been submitted to the Senate, disappointment reached the new level. Would we be wrong in concluding that the Civil war vendatta is yet to be laid to rest?

Robert Boroffice, a member of Buhari’s party. Many Nigerians have placed their hopes in Buhari and believe that he can revive the country’s economic backbone. They are now surrounding the president as his chief advisers. “We believe he wants to correct something that has remained uncorrected across many years” said Abdullahi Muhammad from Borno state in northern Nigeria. The ones the President promised the nation that made him stay this long before releasing the list!
