Buhari to ministers: You must be agents of change

President Muhammadu Buhari has urged his ministerial candidates to join him in administering change in the country.

At the opening ceremony which would be open to the press, the president is expected to give specific objectives to the ministers and his expectation from them following which the retreat would go into a closed door session.

The retreat is organised by the secretary to the government of the federation in conjunction with the United States Agency for worldwide Development (USAID).

The President also approved the constitution of a Presidential Committee to oversee the conclusion of work on the submission, which could lead to the expansion of Nigeria’s maritime boundaries from 200 nautical miles to 350 nautical miles, if approved by the CLCS. It is important that you are fully acquainted with the direction and priorities of this Government so that we can all move together as a team.

According to Nigeria’s number one citizen, the diversification of the nation’s economy would be the focus of his government. We will intervene in mining and agriculture and upgrade the country’s physical and social infrastructure, which will broaden our revenue base and significantly improve the level of employment, especially among the youth.

“The need for observing the rule of law is being emphasised to ensure that impunity is removed from government conduct”, Buhari told the group before the meeting.

“Avoid wastes and conserve resources”, he said.

While reiterating his resolve to diversify the economy, he said their achievements should be counted based on the number of Nigerians that are moved out of poverty.

The red chamber said it was imperative that President Buhari ask his predecessor to account for every penny spent during the latter’s administration on the SURE-P and other poverty alleviation programmes.

He reminded the ministers to establish effective communication with their colleagues, and to rout all communication and appointments to the presidency through the Office of the Chief of Staff “as is normal in this Presidential System”.
