Build 2016: Microsoft Unveils Desktop App Converter, Xbox Dev Mode, and More

Microsoft kicked off its developer-centric conference with a typically long-winded keynote full of exciting stuff… for developers. Probably thanks to some much more exciting news from Tesla, it went under the radar entirely. In addition, Microsoft’s has seen more than 5 billion visits as Windows users look for Windows 10 apps, including almost 1,000 Cortana apps.

Built on Microsoft Azure, these capabilities can be used by developers and businesses to create intelligent end-to-end solutions, including new apps that learn about our world and bots and agents that interact with people in personalized, intelligent ways. A new Skype client, available on Windows, Android, iPhone and iPad brings the Skype Bot experience to all of our customers.

Gone are the days of receiving the same notification on your phone and PC, and having to dismiss them individually.

“We’re also going to talk about how in gaming and consumptive applications we’re going to open up both the PC and the console for new opportunities for developers”.

While Hulu already offers a native app for the Xbox One, the Windows 10 version is more powerful, with support for playing videos through “Hey Cortana” voice commands.

Universal Windows Platform is a cross-device technology that Microsoft first introduced with Windows 10.

“With Windows 10 now running on more than 270 million active devices, we’re celebrating with our fans by delivering the Windows 10 Anniversary Update”, said Terry Myerson, executive vice president of Microsoft’s Windows and Devices Group.

“Today I’m pleased to announce Xbox Dev Mode, giving developers the ability to convert their retail Xbox One into a development kit”.

The company also announced development tools to make apps for larger screen – yes, we’re talking about the Surface Hub.

The Skype Bots is coming soon for iOS, Android, as well as Windows users.
