A builder brothers had to pay $17 million to a recluse to move out from his top floor residence so they could build a new luxury apartment block.

The story was of 2004, when Will and Arthur Zeckendorf bought a Mayflower Hotel in Manhattans upper west side.

After some time, they found a recluse living already on the top floor of their new building.
They had to struggle a lot to move him out after he refused to leave the place. The builder brothers then forced to buy a new flat, a few blocks away, for him.
According to the report, the recluse, Herbert Sukenik, 73, gained a doctorate in physics when he was young.
These all incidents are revealed in the book House of Outrageous Fortune by Michael Gross.
