Bhiwandi is almost 20 km from north-east of Mumbai and a massive rescue operation is underway.

This is second incident of a building collapse in the town in one week.

Initial reports suggest that many are feared to be buried under the debris while four have been rescued so far. “Three families including the owner still continued to reside in the building”.

An NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) team has also been called.

Two families were staying in the dilapidated building, located in the Hanuman Tekri area, and about eight to ten people were reported missing, they said.

The fire brigade has been rushed to the site. We had served an evacuation notice to the building and also cut off its water connection.
