BJP leader Prem Shukla said the Bulandshahr incident proves that administration in Uttar Pradesh has collapsed and that it is now ethical duty of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister to step down from the coveted post.

An FIR under relevant sections of the IPC was lodged against the accused, he said. Demanding a “personal explanation” from Akhilesh Yadav, Mayawati said: “If you can’t manage UP, then resign as chief minister on moral grounds”. He said police had taken into custody 15 persons, all of them belonging to a nomadic tribe, on Saturday evening and interrogated them.

As per sources, Bulandshahr’s SSP, CO and Inspector have been suspended.

The Samajwadi Party government drew criticism for the “deteriorating” law and order situation in the state as a group of men waylaid a family travelling in a auto and gangraped a 45-year-old women and her minor daughter.

Even with stringent anti-rape laws brought in after the gang rape of a 23-year-old Delhi student in December 2012, the number of rape cases being reported continues to rise.

Six others, including Superintendent of Police (city) Rammohan Singh, Circle Officer (Sadar) Himanshu Gaurav and SHO Ramsen Singh of Kotwali Dehat, were also suspended.

Fifteen people were detained and the main accused identified, as police launched a massive manhunt for the bandits who brutally gangraped a woman and her teenage daughter after dragging them out of their auto at Bulandshahr bypass on Delhi-Kanpur National Highway. It shows that the state government has collapsed on every front.

“What is the Samajwadi party and Akhilesh government going to do about it?”

Sex crimes and attacks on women have been the focus of much public attention in India since the gang-rape and murder of a student on a New Delhi bus in 2012.
