Bulldogs make coaches All-SEC team

Alabama’s Derrick Henry was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Year, while teammate Reggie Ragland was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Year.

Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver Fred Ross made the first team All-Southeastern Conference Coaches Football Team on Tuesday.

Texas A&M’s Christian Kirk won Freshman of the Year, and Tennessee’s Evan Berry took home Special Teams Player of the Year.

On Wednesday, the SEC announced three Alabama players won player of the year awards. Senior offensive lineman Sebastian Tretola and junior tight end Hunter Henry earned All-SEC first team status, marking the 10th time in program history that a pair of Razorbacks have landed on the coaches’ first team. Those rushing yard numbers set a new SEC single-season record, surpassing legendary Georgia running back Herschel Walker. He tied Bo Jackson and Walker with four games with more than 200 yards rushing and scored a touchdown in 18 straight games, dating back to last season.

During the season, Ragland recorded a team-leading 90 tackles including 6.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. Ragland is a finalist for the Nagurksi, Butkus and Bednarik Awards. The Little Rock native also leads SEC tight ends with 46 receptions and two 100-yard games, while he became just the eighth tight end in league history with 100 career receptions while playing in the SEC. Kelly was selected as a semifinalist for the 2015 William V. Campbell Trophy, which recognizes the best scholar-athlete in the nation. McElwain guided the Gators to an SEC East title, but lost to Alabama in the SEC Championship Game.
