A Press Association photographer, who was travelling on the bus, claimed passengers were shouting “just keep going” as the bus stopped and waited for a police escort to see them safely to the media centre. However, police say stones were thrown at the bus, as windows were broken not pierced.

Mario Andrada, Rio Organising Committee spokesman, is set to make a statement on the matter, which occurred late Tuesday in the notoriously high crime area of Deodoro where a bullet was sacked into a press centre at the equestrian on Saturday.

Rio organising committee has confirmed this accident and a special investigation force including the federal police was formed to review it.

According to the organisers’ statement, “the driver heard a noise from inside the bus which he thought was photography equipment falling down. I threw a lot of punches in the first round but there was nothing in them”, he added, saying that he had battled to get down to the weight this time and was dehydrated as a result. After a couple of minutes we had a police escort.

“The security authorities are now investigating the incident and we await their report before making further comment”.

On Saturday, a bullet suspected to have been shot by a gang member hit the equestrian center, missing journalists there by just a few feet. No one was injured, but police believe the bullet was sacked by a gang member trying to shoot down a law enforcement aircraft.
