However, when he realises he is unable to get the auto moving, the man climbs back out.
London police are hunting a brazen thief who was filmed cutting open the top of a Porsche convertible with a knife before jumping in and unsuccessfully trying to make off with the luxury auto.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said the incident happened on September 29 at about 7.45am, 20 minutes before a second Porsche – a Cayenne – was targeted on the nearby Carlos Place.
A man, who matched the description of the man who broke into the red Porsche, was seen to take out a lock knife with a 5-inch blade and try to gain entry to the auto.
Later the same morning, at around 11am, there was a robbery reported at JD Sports in Oxford Street.
“A man, believed to be the same suspect, was seen trying to leave the shop with stolen trainers, a sports top and tracksuit bottoms”, the police spokesperson said in a statement. Once the suspect cut the roof open with the knife, he jumped inside and attempted to drive off. But he failed, and had to exit the vehicle through the cut roof.
He damaged the lock before taking off and stealing sportswear and threatening staff at a sport’s store, Sky News reports.
Police is still looking for the suspect, whom they describe as a dark-haired black man in his 20s, about 6ft tall with a dark beard. At the time of the incidents, he was wearing a blue puffer jacket, bleached jeans and a grey beanie hat.
