Burger King Adds Hot Dogs to Menu

Unlike Sonic, Burger King will only offer two varieties of hot dog: a plain version (available with mustard, ketchup, relish and onions) and a chili cheese dog.

“We’re not seeing grilled dogs as a product launch”, says Macedo.

Macedo says that hot dogs will build on the momentum the chain has, given their popularity, including at its trendy eateries.

We’ll see if it’s BYOCS, or Bring Your Own Celery Salt.

This move comes as Burger King works to increase sales amid intensifying competition.

The chain, which already flame-broils its burgers, will use its existing equipment to grill the dogs.

Before the launch, Burger King tested the hot dogs in select markets in five US cities a year ago, which included a “Rodeo” option with onion rings, cheese, and BBQ sauce, as well as the “A1 Ultimate”, topped with bacon, cheese, and A1 Sauce – neither of which made the cut. The Classic is $1.99 and the Chili Cheese is $2.29, or they come as a combo meal served with a small fountain drink and fries for $4.49. Burger King is no longer just for burgers.

However, both Burger King and I agree – two hot dogs is too much.

Burger King will offer something new to its fans in all 7,100 US locations this month.

The history of fast food is riddled with flops on menus and Burger Kings is not an exception to that.

Independent burger bars have been adding hot dogs to their menus over the past several years, as I outlined in a post last summer.

It has apparently also decided against releasing an internal training video with “local dog expert Snoop Dogg … showing workers the ins and outs of the new menu items”.
