Burger King Announces Hot Dogs Will be Newest Addition to Menu

With the classic clocking in at 310 calories and the chilli cheese at 330 calories, two hot dogs is not the solution.

The fast food giant turned to deli meat company Oscar Mayer to make the new menu item in hopes of capitalizing on the growing popularity of high quality hot dogs like those available at Shake Shack and your local baseball stadium.

“This is probably the most obvious product launch ever”, said Alex Macedo, president of Burger King North America.

Ronnie Vaughan (@Vaughanr16) agreed, tweeting “As a big hot dog guy, @BurgerKing adding them to the menu is an A+ move”.

Burger King’s sales scaled 2.1 percent in 2014 at established U. Remember Heinz’s hot dog-heavy Super Bowl 50 ad?

If Burger King can persuade customers to add a hot dog to their orders, the company could have a victor on its hands.

The U.S. Hot Dog and Sausage Council estimates Americans eat 20 billion hot dogs a year, compared to 50 billion burgers a year. The food-review website The Impulsive Buy noted the hot dogs seem “small and not quite substantial enough” but otherwise gave them a positive review.

The addition of hot dogs comes as Burger King tries to gain market share in an increasingly crowded fast food landscape. In 2013, the chain launched fries that were lower in calories known as Satisfries.

Now with B.K.’s next conquest ahead, all that is left for the chain is to execute what it spent the past year building upon. The West Coast rap legend not only reported for duty at the Denver Broncos’ press conference for Super Bowl 50 last week, he’s also signed on as a Burger King grill instructor.

“At some point, they tried popcorn. I wasn’t here, but I hear a lot about the popcorn days”.

“Instead of boiling a hot dog in water, we can grill it just like you would at a backyard barbecue”, Macedo told The New York Times. “You can top this dog with ketchup, mustard, your relishes”.

Burger King will be serving two varieties of hot dogs: classic and chili-cheese.

Unfortunately for BK employees, Snoop’s title of “Grilled Dogs Training Ambassador” is only ceremonial…so don’t get too excited for smoke breaks.
