Burger King Breaks Into the Hot Dog Game
Burger King said adding hot dogs marks its biggest menu addition since it started selling chicken in the 1970s.

After tasting the dogs, here’s why the hot dogs may be able to do just that – and why they might fall short.
Fast food chains are engaged in a war of menu innovation to win the loyalty of diners. Thankfully, they are flame-grilled hot dogs, a classic American staple that the company developed and tested over the a year ago and a half. By contrast, Burger King says it’s returning to its roots as a traditional fast-food outlet instead of trying to match other “fast-casual” chains with offerings such as popcorn and “Satisfries” which have failed in the past.
By serving hot dogs, Burger King directly competes with Sonic Drive-In.
Burger King, best known for its Whopper burger, says hot dogs will be available all year.
The Times noted that Burger King is partially owned by a private equity group that also partly owns Kraft Heinz, a company that produces numerous condiments people will be using with the new item.
In 2013, Burger King launched “Satisfries” – a low calorie alternative to chips – that failed to attract customers.
Burger King has had its share of flops, as well.
“At some point, they tried popcorn”. For those employees for whom it may not already be clear, Snoop adds: “You know relish ain’t nothing but chopped up pickles?” Macedo said that the company considered including two hot dogs in the combo deal, which pairs the dog with fries and a small fountain drink.

Bonus treat: There’ll be a chili cheese dog on sale, too, for $2.29.
