At least 10 people have been killed in clashes since Thursday.
Paul Sankara, more youthful sibling of the late President Thomas Sankara, said demonstrators at the White House Sunday approached President Barack Obama to request the unlimited restoration of the transitional government drove by Michel Kafando.
The “Balai Citoyen” (Civic Broom) civil society movement, which helped spearhead the protests that overthrew Compaore after he tried to extend his 27-year grip on power, has also denounced the deal. Kafando was freed on Friday, reportedly in good health. Fresh elections would then be held by November 22 at the latest.
West African states are due to discuss the proposal Tuesday in Abuja, Nigeria. “I address a strong warning to those who would be tempted to oppose them”, he said during a state visit to Morocco.
Tensions around the talks came to a head Sunday when dozens of supporters of the military coup stormed the Laico hotel hosting the talks, chanting slogans and wrecking furniture. Responding to the army’s ultimatum, the man behind the coup, General Gilbert Diendere, warned of “chaos, civil war and the mass violation of human rights”.

However, the general now in charge of Burkina Faso did not attend the news conference where the draft agreement was read aloud and it was unclear whether he would abide by the plan that calls for him to step aside until the elections can be organised.
Meanwhile, anti-coup protests continued for a fourth day on Sunday as demonstrators erected barricades in neighbourhoods across Ouagadougou, braving the presidential guard’s attempts to break up gatherings of protesters.
Soldiers from the presidential guard were largely absent from Ouagadougou’s streets for the first time since Wednesday’s coup, and it was not clear where Diendere was.

He was aged just 36 when he took power in Burkina Faso, a landlocked French colony previously known as Upper Volta, and whose present title translates roughly as “Nation of Incorruptibles”.
