Burn victim who wished for Christmas cards receives trip to Disney World

Today, the charity Baking Memories 4 Kids will present Sa’fyre, Dolder, her husband, Mike, and their four children with a trip to Walt Disney World, which the family will take in February. The post office already expects this next week, a tractor-trailer will be needed to bring Safyre all her deliveries.

In 2013, a fire burned down Safyre’s home which left her father, 3-year-old sister, 2-year-old brother and 11-month-old half-brother dead.

Safyre’s 32-year-old father and three younger siblings were killed in a house fire in NY two years ago.

A message posted on a Facebook page dedicated to Safyre said the big reveal would happen on Monday, when Safyre would be told she was headed on a new adventure. She said one of Safyre’s friends from school nominated her for the Disney trip.

Sa’fyre was injured in a May 2013 fire that claimed the lives of her family.

Safyre was surprised with the trip by officers from NYSP, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Schenectady and Princetown police departments. It had been set in a stairwell which was upstairs from the family’s apartment.

The family’s YouCaring fundraiser site, which once had a modest goal of raising $15,000, has raised more than $300,000 to date, as support pours in from around the world.

One man had been arrested and charged with setting the fire, but charges against him were later dropped less than a year later.

Touched by her story after reading it in the Mirror Online, award-winning designer Soula Zavacopoulos got in touch with the UK Greeting Card Association to help make the little girl’s wish come true. Federal authorities did not explain at the time what prompted their decision. He has not been charged with causing any of the deaths.

“She can’t believe it”, Dolder said.

“Then some bright spark thought it might be a better idea if our community could send cards to say they were thinking of loved ones this holiday season, whilst benefiting the fund set up to help Safyre”.

Safyre Terry has already lived through much more hurt and suffering at eight-years of age than most experience in their lives.

Thortful’s CEO Andy Pearce said: “When we came across the story our first instinct was to send her 1,000 cards personally written by our customers”.
