Burning grass fire has scorched 2500 acres east of Livermore

Tesla was a late 19th century coal-mining community in Corral Hollow, and Carnegie was a nearby town that grew up at the turn of the 20th century to manufacture fire brick and terra cotta tile made from nearby clay deposits.

The #TeslaFire near Livermore has now burned 2,500 acres. The fire was headed south and southeast, away from Livermore and Tracy. The fire is about 25 percent contained. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Reports of the fire came in at 2:45 p.m. off Tesla Road near Corral Hollow Road between Tracy and Livermore, Cal Fire officials said.

Officials tell news that two hundred fifty-seven fire personnel are on scene.

The fire is burning in an area of isolated ranch and farm facilities with brush and grass the main fuel.

She says the blaze destroyed one structure, but it is not clear if it’s an outbuilding or a residence.

One abandoned structure was lost.

“If the wind dies down, maybe things will slow down a bit”, Temmermand said. But if temperatures drop, then firefighters could improve containment levels.

Cal Fire and Alameda County Fire crews will continue to tackle the fire throughout the day, and Temmermand said they are hopeful that cooler weather may aid their efforts. “But I know they’re getting gusts of 12 to 13 (mph), so we’ll see”.
