Darikwa (67) was left with a simple tap in for his first goal since his arrival from Chesterfield in the summer, which has seen him impress so far, after Arfield crossed in to give Burnley hope at the midway point of the second half.
But the visitors held on and while the Royals are let to lose on the road this season, Clarke knows there is much work still to do.
Things are looking good on the club front, and with Northern Ireland, he is on the brink of reaching Euro 2016: “We’re one win away from history with Northern Ireland, potentially”.
“It shows the attacking intent we had, and the crowd clapped them off because they thought that’s a group who have given everything”. But there’s no point in getting too excited about the table in September. “We did that and got the result”.
But then after the interval Royals had to stand up and be counted as Burnley threw everything at them as they searched for a way back into the game. Next week against Middlesbrough we’re taking on a team that everybody is saying will be up there in the mix at the end of the season.
7/5 is a fair price on a home win and the fact that four of these sides’ last six meetings have topped the 2.5 goals mark indicates that backing the same to be the case this weekend is good value at 11/10.
Clarets boss Sean Dyche bemoaned a sloppy start as Burnley failed to recover from losing two goals in the first nine minutes against Reading.
“It’s unusual for us to start so sloppy really”.
“After that the response was excellent, the way the team went about it for the rest of the game and the chances we created were certainly enough to get something from the game”.
“Speaking to my mates, they think it’s a shrewd signing, and I’d agree, he’s got that experience and is a fantastic footballer”.
“You have to learn different ways to win football matches”.

“We kept them to mainly long-distance efforts apart from one at the end where it got a bit of a scramble in the box. It’s very hard then”.
