The charter bus was carrying a group of college students from the Rock Hill, South Carolina area who were playing for a football team called Ramah Jucco Academy, according to Jim Terry, who works recruiting players for an opposing team called University of God’s Chosen in Raeford. Some parents were following the bus and saw the accident, then stopped to help the injured football players.

A bus carrying college football players crashed on the Highway 74 bypass just outside Rockingham, N.C., on Saturday (Sept. 17), killing four people and injuring dozens more, according to North Carolina officials and several local media outlets.
State troopers closed westbound lanes on I-74 as they continued to investigate.
Police identified the victims as driver Brian Kirkpatrick, 43, Clinton College students Devonte Gibson, 21, and Teto Hamilton, 19, and 10-year-old Darice Hicks, 10.
Two federal investigators are going to North Carolina to check the tires on a bus that crashed, killing four people on their way to a SC junior college’s first-ever football game.
His friends at Ebenezer Elemenatry in Rock Hill lowered the school’s flag in his honor Monday. Per WNCN, both teams are comprised of junior college students who attend two-year schools that don’t field football teams. The patrol said it was unclear if they played for an off-campus football team.
Hamlet is about midway between Charlotte and Fayetteville. Images from the scene showed the bus stopped in the median with significant damage to the left side of the bus.
