Busch passes Blaney late to win Truck race at Michigan

Kyle Busch bounced straight back from his crash in the earlier Sprint Cup Series practice which means that he will start tomorrow’s race from the back of the grid, and showed that he’s quite capable of overcoming exactly that sort of handicap and successfully pulling off a win regardless of the setback. He also has won a couple Xfinity races, and he is unbeaten on the Truck series.

Kyle Busch scored his second consecutive Camping World Truck Series victory Saturday at Michigan worldwide Speedway, rallying from a speeding penalty.

“Kyle got a big push by (Jones),” Blaney said.

Following the comments about the grass at MIS, Busch was clearly able to move on as he scored his 44th career Truck Series victory.

BACK OF THE PACK: Busch spun out in Turn 4 and slid into the infield grass at MIS during the final Sprint Cup practice session, which wrecked the front of his auto.

“Jones has come up through the ranks really fast”, Busch said after the race. It’s an accident that will require him to forfeit his starting spot near the front in the Pure Michigan 400. It wasn’t long before he he was back in front. Since everyone had just made their stops and were good to go to the finish, only Jones was tempted down pit lane for fresh tyres. He shot past Ryan Blaney with four laps to go to win. Crafton made it through a messy situation toward the end when both he and John Wes Townley started sliding nearly sideways on the track.

But with the last 20 laps slowed by cautions, Busch had to rely on the generosity of those behind him for a push to point – and his first truck win at Michigan. Blaney was extended his lead with a draft from Erik Jones, when the bossman came over the radio.

Reddick finished ninth in the 100-lap race, and Crafton, who won the pole Saturday morning, finished sixth despite being plagued by windshield issues during the race. Reddick is now on 514 points, just eight ahead of Crafton, while Erik Jones is just one point further back in third.
