“We strive to ensure that its radical anti-war message of “no to any war” remains firmly embedded in the symbolic meaning of our white poppy”. The shop presented $1,400 to the Legion last year and hope to match that amount this year. The range will include jute bags, tea towels and flower bouquets.
Poppies and crosses can be bought from the British Legion or St Mary’s Church, Nantwich.
He said: “The legion is run on army lines, it’s about the companionship and banter”.
It is the first time Transdev has placed poppies on the front of its entire fleet in partnership with the Royal British Legion.
The 2015 Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal was launched on Thursday 23 October.
VETERANS will be marking Remembrance Sunday with a series of services and parades around the borough.
There will also be a raffle, with all proceeds going to the Poppy Appeal.
Like past year, I’ve been writing to the heads of schools as well as lots of different organisations in my constituency to encourage them to take part.
Nationally, funds are used to support medical training and research, purchase medical equipment that will help care for veterans, building and maintaining housing and care facilities for elderly and disabled people, bursaries for children and grandchildren of veterans, drop-in centres and Meals on Wheels services, and local cadet corps.
The white poppy is worn as a symbol of peace. The Poppy also serves as a symbol of unity for those who recognize the sacrifices that were made for their freedom, and it forges a bond between people of all ages, not only within Canada, but around the world.
Melkert is a Dutch immigrant, who at 16 was saved from starvation when Canadian soldiers liberated his home city of Rotterdam.
He said he met a Canadian soldier who thrust a few raisins into his hand – a memory he will never forget.
Store manager Paul Gunter said: “I’d like to thank our customers for their kind donations and support every year”. “It’s a small price to pay for what they (Canadians) did to liberate my country”.

On Wednesday, November 11, the Port Perry Legion will host a Remembrance Day service inside the Scugog Memorial Public Library, 231 Water St., at 10:30 a.m. Participants will then form up for a parade and the procession will begin its march at 10:45 a.m., heading to the cenotaph at Scugog municipal office at 181 Perry St. where a service will be held at 11 a.m.
