But can they take on Apple?

Both the Galaxy S6 edge+ and the Galaxy Note 5 handsets are equipped with an octa-core Exynos 7420 processor; and boast 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM, fingerprint scanners, 16-megapixel OIS f1. Fortunately, there’s one inclusion on the Galaxy S6 Edge+ that will likely prove helpful: a full suite of Microsoft Office apps, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Also, the S-Pen is made from sturdier materials unlike before.

Its S-Pen has also been redesigned and now this dedicated Note 5 stylus is clickable when you need to take it out from the sheath. Samsung’s Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge phones, which are closer in size to the regular iPhone 6, came out in April. A new feature allows users to make notes directly on the phone screen, without having to power on or unlock the phone.

“The Note would have been a good fit for Europe’s enterprise market, and if Samsung expects the S6 Edge+ to attract the same business users I don’t believe it will succeed”, commented Francisco Jeronimo from market research firm IDC. The camera in the Galaxy S6 edge+ should be identical to the one in the Note5 (and probably the S6 duo too), featuring the same f/1.9 aperture as well as optical image stabilization and auto real-time HDR. In the S6 Edge, it was largely used just to give access to favourite contacts, a sort of souped-up quick dial. Now you can add favourite apps, and choose exactly where the tab appears. Pricing and availability will be announced soon.

The Note 5 has an interneal storage of 32GB or 64GB without the support for microSD cards.

Other connectivity options include Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, GPS/ A-GPS, and Micro-USB 2.0 (no USB 3.1 Type-C as expected). Both devices hit stores on August 21 and are available for pre-order starting Thursday.

Samsung also officially introduced Samsung Pay and said the feature will work with any POS machines that have the capability to read any credit or debit cards.

The payment service will launch in South Korea on September 20, but it’s unclear as to whether this service could be available in South Africa as well.
