Butler makes key play in Lions’ win over Packers

The Detroit Lions hadn’t won at Lambeau Field since 1991, the year before Brett Favre arrived in Green Bay, but pulled off an 18-16 victory with one of the worst teams they’ve fielded in that stretch. That might actually be even more embarrassing than losing to the Lions at home. They forced Aaron Rodgers to throw the ball more than 60 times.

Under pressure to produce from the boss, the Detroit Lions secured a signature win in the unlikeliest of places.

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers clearly heard the remark, and chose to address the fan directly following his team’s 18-16 loss to the Lions. Damarious Randall came up with the ball to give the Packers new life at the Lions’ 49 and half a minute to work with. Had a few mistakes in all three phases, but also made a few big plays in all three, which sometimes offsets those mistakes. “So, with that, we’ll learn from it (and) we won’t get caught up in the dramatic things that may chase these types of games”. Both teams continued the field position game until late in the second quarter, when the Lions started at their own 47-yard line.

Matt Prater missed the extra point but later made it a two score game at 12-3 with a 51-yard field goal. The Lions capitalized on the big return with a third down touchdown pass from Matthew Stafford to Brandon Pettigrew.

Here is video of the moment of silence before Lions-Packers. One in particular was by Julius Peppers on Theo Riddick on a pass underneath and which resulted in a Lions first down.

Green Bay (6-2) was sitting at 6-0 and being pegged to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. They lead the league in that category. This week, Rodgers and Justin Perillo each caught a TD pass, with Perillo’s being the first of his career. Lawson was matched up with Davante Adams nearly exclusively.

Crosby’s kick looks as though it was tipped but replays showed that it wasn’t.

The problem for the Packers’ defense most of the year has been its inability to stop the run, but Ameer Abdullah, Joique Bell and Theo Riddick combined for only 33 yards on 22 rushing attempts.

Finally, the Packers entered the red zone for the first time on the day on the next drive. Tampa Bay’s Jameis (JAYM’-ihs) Winston led the Bucs to a 10-6 win with a 1-yard quarterback keeper with 54 seconds remaining. This certainly is a must-win for the Packers, who have beaten Detroit 24 consecutive times in Wisconsin, and the Lions looked like an FCS school collecting a paycheck in a 45-10 loss to Kansas City in London before the bye.
