Buttler breaks England record with 46-ball century

Opener Jason Roy played a very fine inning of 102 runs of 117 balls, he was followed by Joe Root (71) and Jose Buttler (116), together they helped their side to put up a giant task for Pakistan to reach.

It was Jos Buttler who stole the show, though, and the 25-year-old broke his own record for the fastest one-day global century by an England batsman, reaching the landmark in just 46-balls.

Pakistan responded by 271 runs as they have been bowled out in forty.

England spinners Adil Rashid (3-78) and Moeen Ali (3-53) shared six wickets.

In the recently concluded game, the hosts were thrashed by the visitors by 6 wickets and the host Pakistan was in a great position at one stage of a match with being 132-2 but later they were dismissed for only 208, which includes three chaotic run outs. The Lancashire man’s innings was the fastest in English ODI history, and the fifth fastest in one-day history altogether. Under Ali Pakistan were whitewashed 3-0 by Bangladesh in May before he led the team to two back-to-back series against Zimbabwe (home and away) and Sri Lanka, away.

The fourth and final one-day global between Pakistan and England will be played at Dubai worldwide Stadium in Dubai on Friday.

Both Root and Eoin Morgan were then stumped to become the first two victims for Pakistan skipper Azhar Ali in ODI cricket, but Buttler – promoted to number four following Roy’s exit – soon got into his stride.

Buttler came in at the team score of 194 in the 36th over and it seemed England would be happy with a final score of anything above 290.

Buttler used the long handle to good effect, hitting 10 exquisite shots for four runs, and lofting 8 massive hits over the boundary.

“But we all realise the importance of this game so we will do our hardest work to win and I am confident that if we play to our ability then we can definitely win this game”. I don’t really understand how it can turn around so fast.

England took 79 from the last five overs alone, Buttler finishing with eight maximums and 10 fours, and although Pakistan began their innings aggressively, David Willey (2-34) soon removed the recalled Ahmed Shehzad (13) and Azhar (44).

The two sides will now lock horns for a three-match T20 global series beginning Thursday.

Trevor Bayliss, England’s head coach, said: “I’m not sure I’ve got the words for what I saw tonight”.

Just when the boundaries were flowing however, it was once again the Pakistani achilles heel of running between the wickets that reared it’s ugly head, as Hafeez was ran out for 37.
