Byron Scott’s Out, Who’s Next?
Scott’s contract included a team option for next season – the third year of the deal – that was tied to performance incentives that he did not meet, sources said. Two prominent coaches linked with the Lakers, Tom Thibodeau and Scott Brooks, accepted positions in Minnesota and Washington, respectively.

After two seasons, Byron Scott’s bumpy ride as Lakers head coach has come to an end.
Two weeks ago at exit interviews, Mitch Kupchak said Byron Scott was still the coach of the Lakers, but left the door open for that to change by suggesting that he and Jim Buss would meet to discuss the future of the position. Scott coached the Lakers for the past two seasons, going 38-126 as the team was in the midst of a rebuild and a farewell tour for superstar Kobe Bryant. If the Lakers’ pick falls out of the top-3, they wouldn’t get to pick a high draft pick this season.
Fisher would be a frightful hire for the Lakers.
The Los Angeles Lakers endured its most forgettable season in franchise history, but not without casualties.
“Scott told the Times in February he wouldn”t change his ways despite being criticized by the media for being too rough on young players D”Angelo Russell and Julius Randle.
Kevin Ollie “intrigued” by Lakers coaching job, source says: Count Connecticut coach Kevin Ollie as one of the many presumed candidates who would be interested in coaching the Lakers. ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith was the first to break the story regarding the Lakers’ firing of Byron Scott. He won three National Basketball Association titles as the shooting guard for the Showtime Lakers of the 1980s, playing alongside Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and James Worthy on some of the greatest teams in league history.
Will the Lakers interview Walton or Fisher in the coming days?
Over the last couple of years, it seems as if every National Basketball Association franchise with a head-coaching vacancy has had Kevin Ollie on its wish list. Van Gundy carries a.575 win percentage in his two stints as coach of both the New York Knicks and Houston Rockets.
As the Lakers look to replace their coach there are a number of names names being touted as a potential replacement, one thing is for sure, Franchise fans eagerly awaits the next choice.
The Lakers’ new coach will inherit a young, patchwork roster with a core of intriguing talent. They’re eager to discover whether or not they’ll be able to keep their first-round pick in the June draft, too.
This is a development coaching job right now.
Even with the acquisition of a major free-agent such as Kevin Durant, the Lakers would struggle to make the NBA Playoffs in a loaded Western Conference.
Who should the Lakers hire as their next coach?

“I thought our young players did make progress”, Kupchak said.
