C.J. Wilson injures hand in fireworks accident – Lincoln Times-News | Lincoln

Bucs backup cornerback C.J. Wilson was hospitalized after the firework went off in his hand in his hometown of Lincolnton, N.C., his high school coach told the Tampa Bay Times. We have been in contact with C.J. and are continuing to monitor the situation. “It is our understand that his injury occurred to ne of his hands and our primary concern at this moment is for his long-term health”. Wilson’s agent, Joel Turner, declined to discuss specifics of the injury and referred all further questions about Wilson’s situation to the Buccaneers, but a team source told ESPN National Football League Insider Ed Werder that the injury was “significant”. “With federal law on releasing medical information, etc., we are deferring any media issues to the Tampa Bay medical staff/front office”. Earlier, the Buccaneers acknowledged Wilson’s injury in a statement but didn’t address the nature or severity of it. Wilson had played sparingly over the last two seasons. New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul severely injured a hand in a fireworks accident in South Florida on Saturday night. Unlike JPP, Wilson is a fringe player who needed a strong training camp to make the roster. He appeared in just 2 games for Tampa last season.

Considering the unusual turns the Pierre-Paul saga has taken already – from erroneous reports of possible disfigurement, to potential criminal charges, to the likelihood of his landing on the non-football injury list and missing the first six games of the 2015 NFL season – it will be interesting to see if Wilson’s case follows a similar path.
