The 65-year-old Olympic gold medallist was accused of causing a fatal four-car collision on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu after striking another vehicle in transit last February.

A representative for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department announced Thursday that in one week, detectives will be submitting a case to the district attorney regarding the February 7 crash Jenner was involved in.

A misdemeanour manslaughter charge usually carries a one-year county jail sentence.

The stepchildren’s lawsuit states the two – William Howe, 57, and Dana Redmond, 60 – suffered “enormous damages and losses” after Howe’s death.

Jenner, who was driving a Cadillac Escalade and towing a trailer, then rear-ended Howe’s Lexus, sending it into the southbound lanes where it was hit head-on by an oncoming Hummer.

Jenner released a statement a day after the accident, saying, “My heartfelt and deepest sympathies go out to the family and loved ones, and to all of those who were involved or injured in this awful accident”. Also key to what’s ultimately charged, he said, will be how detailed the police investigation was in recording speeds and distances at the accident scene. I can not pretend to imagine what this family is going through at this time.

“I am praying for them”, she added. “I will cooperate in any way possible” she said.

Jenner came out as a transgender woman in a television interview in April, when she discussed how she had been grappling her gender identity since childhood.
