Calf injury keeps New York Giants WR Victor Cruz on sidelines

So the short week coming up might be a determining factor in whether Beason plays against the Falcons or waits a few more days for the Redskins, and the veteran linebacker is not pleased about that. But once and for all, offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo flushed it. He began his weekly session with the media by saying that he was raised to be an aggressive play-caller, which is something he takes a lot of pride in and led to calling for a pass on third-and-one with 1:43 to play when he could have run more time off the clock.

Coughlin himself said he prefers players who would rather be on the field than err on the side of caution.

-The Atlanta Falcons will be an interesting test for the Giants’ defense on Sunday due to their up-tempo offense, now under the direction of Kyle Shanahan. “To think you have to play a game on Thursday, it’s tough”. Beason did not participate in practice on Wednesday. “You’re going to feel it on Thursday, but we all will”. “God forbid we have to play 80 snaps”.

For that reason, the Giants’ coaching and medical staff may have to do a bit of strategizing along with their physical evaluation of the defensive leader’s inflamed left knee. “There is going to be [left guard Justin] Pugh and Flowers and how that group works, been impressive so far with what I’ve seen”. “Well, basically, he said I’m playing and I’m practicing”. Even in practice, it’s important to get reps and be on the field so you can be full speed come game time.

“There appeared to be more occurring versus exactly what said”, Beason said along the protection the Giants were really in. I feel great about Uani’ and our core.

Uani Unga started in Beason’s place.

“We’ll use the young guy [Cunningham], and we’ll be prepared in other ways in case we have to be that way”, Coughlin said. “I’m not ready for that”.

As for the meeting with Washington, Beason added defiantly, “It just becomes hard physically to play on Thursday”.

NOTES: Coughlin said he has not seen published photos of Jason Pierre-Paul’s mangled right hand.

Finally, tight end Daniel Fells will miss Sunday’s contest with a foot injury, which will press Jermaine Cunningham into action. Although Fells and Donnell hauled in three catches apiece, the former outgained the latter 33 to 21 yards. Cullen Jenkins, who started at defensive end last week, will move inside to tackle now that starter Markus Kuhn (knee) has been ruled out.
