A missing 8-year-old girl from Calgary has been located near Abbotsford, B.C. and her 19 year old brother his facing charges.

Through the course of the investigation, Calgary police learned that the suspect was driving west through British Columbia. Her anxious parents called police after discovering both children missing along with the family vehicle. Police say the girl was unharmed.

The family vehicle was spotted driving on the highway just outside of Hope, BC, when Mounties moved in and took the girl and her older brother into custody without incident further down the highway. Davidson said they’re still working to determine a possible motive.

They’re not releasing the name of either one to protect the privacy of the family.

The father of the girl has been flown out to be reunited with his daughter on a flight arranged by the Missing Children Society of Canada, in partnership with WestJet.

Her brother will be transferred back to Alberta later this week.

Police say the teen was not known to them prior to this incident and that there was no history of domestic conflict in the family home.
