Last week, Gov. Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency, as more than a dozen wildfires burned across California.

Evacuations have been ordered for the fire that ignited Sunday and doubled in size overnight. Though firefighters still were working in “hot and dry, not ideal conditions”, cooler temperatures and increased relative humidity were helping them make gains, he said.

Officials with the Lake County Sheriff’s office did not immediately return calls seeking comment, but the Los Angeles Times is reporting that deputies suspected Silva of attempting to stage a small controlled burn, to protect marijuana plants from being scorched by the nearby Jerusalem Fire. No homes have been destroyed or injuries reported Monday.

All mandatory evacuation orders had been lifted as of Saturday morning.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated. It is partially contained.

Authorities couldn’t say what number of houses have been evacuated or how many individuals have been advised to be ready to flee.

The blaze near Anza started in the motor home and spread to vegetation Monday.

The fire’s path Monday was headed south and southeast, toward further rugged terrain north of Lake Berryessa. Full containment is expected this Thursday, August 13th. It is close in proximity to where the Rocky Fire has been burning for more than a week.

King said he began loading his important documents, rifles, generator, clothes and other possessions as soon as he and his wife saw the smoke Saturday morning.

Between 2000 and 2013, almost 300 firefighters died trying to put out wildfires, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

A big wildfire burning along the west shore of Lake Chelan has grown to almost 54 square miles, but firefighters were keeping it away from the communities of Holden Village and Stehekin.
