California city’s police kill man they say stabbed 6 people

Police have shot and killed a man they say stabbed six people in a knife attack in Long Beach, California.

Homicide detectives were on scene Friday night investigating the incident.

Long Beach police said officers responded to a call of an active stabbing in the 3200 block of E. Artesia about 8:17 p.m. Friday. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

5 out of the 6 people who were stabbed were sent to the nearby hospital and one victim was treated at the scene and was released immediately. KNBC-TV via AP Pedestrians watch the scene after police shot and killed a suspected stabber.

Five of the six stabbing victims were rushed to a hospital, in conditions ranging from superficial to critical, police said.

The number of victims or the nature of their injuries has not been released by authorities. The station quoted an unnamed relative it said was a sister of the suspect as saying the man had been released from jail less than two weeks ago and they had spent time together earlier in the day.

Police said at least one of the stabbing victims is in critical condition
