“Fantasy Sports Sites Told to Cease in NY State” is categorized as “us”.

Under state law, both companies have five business days to respond to Schneiderman’s order, after which the attorney general can file a lawsuit attempting to enforce it.

Following the dramatic announcement from NY Attorney General Eric Schneiderman declaring daily fantasy sports illegal according to his state’s laws, questions continue to surround the stance and eventual action from MA.

“We urge FanDuel and DraftKings to follow this example, by immediately meeting the terms of the Attorney General’s letter, and by ending their illegal gambling enterprise – and the economic and public health harms that come with it – here in ny”, spokesman Matt Mittenthal said.

Tuesday’s news out of Albany didn’t make its way to Wisconsin for the fifth Republican debate, the eight contenders focusing on the economy, immigration, and national security and opting to steer clear of less dire issues like daily fantasy sports.

DraftKings and FanDuel, however, say their businesses are legal under the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006, which allows for bets on games of skill. In the speech she gave, she noted that more than 500,000 users were from NY alone, making this a huge blow to the company.

Coakley said the NY Attorney General’s decision would have a “huge impact” on the industry.

FanDuel also said it plans a legal challenge. Schneiderman’s strong language, issued from the same city that houses the leagues’ headquarters, made it more hard for them to claim they are only aligning their policies with the law. Employees from neither of the companies said a word because they were turning a profit.

Last month, Nevada regulators ordered both sites to shut down because they lacked gambling licenses and several other states, including Pennsylvania, are considering imposing their own rules.

In this October 25, 2015, photo, workers set up a DraftKings promotions tent in the parking lot of Gillette Stadium, in Foxborough, Mass., before an NFL football game between the New England Patriots and NY Jets. The wording of the letters suggests that the line between illegal gambling and legal sports fantasy play might depend on the details of how each game is organized and whether it is predominantly a game of skill or chance. Ad tracker iSpot estimates the two companies have collectively spent more than $220 million since August, when the National Football League pre-season started ramping up.

Schneiderman’s order does not apply to season-long fantasy-sports contests.

The Fair Trade Sports Association estimates there are 42 million players in the United States and Canada.

“It really does lure in people who are the most prone to gambling addiction problems”, he said. It would take a change in state law.

It also says “Daily fantasy sports is a skill game and is not considered gambling”. If the ban does take effect, NY would join Arizona, Iowa, Louisiana, Montana and Washington as states that don’t allow daily fantasy sports.

“To date, our investigation has shown that the top 1 percent of [DraftKings and FanDuel] winners receive the majority of the winnings”, Schneiderman stated.

“We’re a legal game”, FanDuel CEO Nigel Eccles said on a conference call with reporters. People aren’t being “fleeced” when they willingly participate in one of these daily fantasy sports sites.

The fantasy sports industry has been largely unregulated until now. But the New York Attorney General shut industry giants Draft Kings and Fan Duel out of the state Tuesday saying daily fantasy games violate state gambling laws
