The new designation will be included right next to the donor pink dot, and right above the sex and height information on driver licenses and identification cards.

The state is launching a new program to honor California’s military veterans.

There’s a few good news this Veterans Day for vets who live in California: Starting Thursday, the state will offer a special new “veteran” designation on driver licenses. “I encourage our Veterans to contact a local CVSO and start the process and learn about their earned benefits, just as I have”. Vets can take discharge certificates to their County Veteran Service Officer to get a Veteran Status Verification Form. If you need assistance obtaining your military records, any CVSO should be able to help. For faster CVSO service, make an appointment with any CVSO by calling 844-737-8838 or finding your local CVSO here. Bring your Veteran Status Verification Form to any DMV field office. There’s a one-time $5 fee for the veterans designation, plus other fees already in place at the DMV for applications and renewals of licenses or identification cards. To schedule an appointment at any DMV field office, visit http://www.dmv.ca.gov or call 800-777-0133.

The announcement was made Tuesday-a day before Veterans Day-in Sacramento by officials from CalVets and the DMV, as well as by Assemblyman Jim Frazier, D-Oakley, who authored the 2014 piece of legislation allowing the designation.
