“The smoke is on the desert floor”, said Eric Sherwin of the San Bernardino County Fire Department. “It’s to the point where explosive fire growth is the new normal this year”.
Red flag fire weather conditions are forecast to continue through 9 p.m. PDT Thursday, which means conditions will remain conducive to additional spreading of this blaze. The blaze is now heading toward Wrightwood, a skiing community of about 4,500 residents. People who were at the Lytle Creek RV park were able to safely evacuate the area. The evacuation area includes some 34,500 homes. There are unconfirmed reports that 50 homes have burned in the area.
One resident told CNN affiliate, KABC that she was there when the flames were all around.
Most of the other fires were quickly extinguished or didn’t spread. The blaze 60 miles east of Los Angeles has burned what appear to be several ranc.
The a uthorities could not immediately say how many homes had been destroyed, but they warned that the number will be large.
The massive, wind-driven wildfire devoured 30,000 acres and multiple homes and buildings by Wednesday morning, forcing more than 80,000 people to evacuate their homes.
The fire began as a small brush fire, and it has since grown to such an extent that parts of Interstate 15 was forced to shut down.
According to the criminal complaint, he allegedly started six fires in July and August 2015 and another five during the same months this year. “The skies are black, the ash has covered the cars and the driveway”. Just hours before they had also been evacuated from their elementary school. The flames burned faster in the grassy areas, making them less likely to burn homes but also making them more vulnerable to wind shifts, Sherwin said.
“Sprint is actively involved in the local community and we want to lend a helping hand to our family, friends, customers and neighbors”, said Kevin Kunkel, Sprint’s Region President for Southern California.
The cause of the fire wasn’t immediately known.
“No matter what happens, God is going to be with me”, said Conrad.
“They’ve been talking about it on social media and many are making individual decisions on whether to stay”, Calanca said.
San Bernardino National Forest and Cal Fire officials are using 57 fire engines and 10 air tankers to tackle the fire. Wind pushed flames through the hills and toward residential communities tucked into the forest, he said.
San Bernardino County Sheriff’s officials continued to urge residents to abide mandatory evacuation orders as of Wednesday evening. The firefighters sought shelter in a nearby structure, and two were later treated for minor injuries.

The Clark County Department of Air Quality said the advisory will be in effect Wednesday through Friday. The fire, which has burned almost 4,000 acres since it broke out Saturday and was 50 percent contained, Cal Fire said. The 6-square-mile blaze was 50 per cent contained after destroying 268 structures, including 175 homes and eight businesses, in the working-class community of Lower Lake over the weekend.
