California firefighters hold blaze that jumped line

In the Central California foothills, helicopters and air tankers were attacking another fire burning near the tiny wooded communities of Bass Lake and Cascadel Woods north of Fresno.

Cal Fire crews are battling a vegetation fire in Lake County near Morgan Valley Road and Rocky Creek Road, east of Lower Lake.

A wildfire east of California’s Napa Valley has now charred more than 11 square miles after it jumped a containment line in rugged, steeped terrain that was baking in triple digit temperatures.

Cal Fire and Lake County Sheriff Officials didn’t know exactly how many people are leaving their homes. “A weather station near the Lower Lake fire reported a high temperature in the low 100s Wednesday afternoon, with relative humidity readings in the teens”. Officials tell news that “Fire is traveling a rapid rate of spread with forward spotting”.

Authorities ordered mandatory evacuations immediately after the blaze broke out in Lake County. As many as 1,800 homes were threatened by shifting winds, Berlant said.

After burning 150 acres as of 6:00 p.m, Cal Fire reported the blaze burned 3,000 acres as of 10:30 p.m. and destroyed several outbuildings.

Linn declined to identify the boy who remains at home and could be charged next week.

In the Sierra Nevada foothills, evacuation orders have been lifted for residents of 50 homes after a fire started there Saturday, Berlant said.
