California jobs rise year-over-year in May

Employers in the state added 27,987 jobs over the past year, which is a growth rate of 1 percent, slightly under the national job growth rate of 1.7 percent for the same period.

Unemployment rate by gender – The U.S. jobless rate for men was 4.3 percent in May, down from 5 percent a year earlier.

The number of unemployed Hoosiers dropped by more than 5,000 compared to April, according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

The headline number is 1,900 jobs lost in Minnesota in May.

The Nebraska Department of Labor reports the preliminary unemployment rate for May at 3%, unchanged from the rate in April.

The latest numbers show unemployment is still falling in Arkansas.

With an unemployment rate of a microscopic 2.6 percent, San Mateo County had virtually no one out of work in May. Nine major industry sectors posted growth, with three adding 4,300 or more jobs, each.

“Texas Workforce Solutions continues to offer market aligned services to advance local job creation efforts”, said Texas Workforce Commission Chairman Andres Alcantar in a news release.

“So the percentage of Arkansans with jobs is presently 8 percentage points lower than it was a decade ago”, Pakko said. The government losses, along with more adults trying to find work, helped send the jobless rate from 5.5 percent to 5.6 percent.

Education and health services gained the most jobs year-over-year with 18,533 new positions, the data shows. The largest decreases occurred in government, leisure/hospitality, & professional/business services.

In a year-over-year comparison (May 2015 to May 2016), nonfarm payroll employment in California increased by 440,300 jobs (up 2.8 percent).

Financial activities lost 600 jobs (-0.3%) over the month. The rate declined by 0.4 of a percentage point over the past two months, offsetting gains in the first quarter 2016.
