Officers were called at about 3 a.m.to the gas station in Franklin Village, at the foot of the Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles police Officer Norma Eisenman said.
Police are assisted by a bloodhound at the scene of a fatal beating in the Franklin Village area of Los Angeles on August 14, 2016.
When police arrived on the scene, the driver was suffering from head trauma, and taken to the hospital where he died shortly after.
“The cab driver was struck several times”, LAPD Lt. John Radtke told KTLA.
Radtke described the suspect as a white or Middle Eastern man with thick, dark hair and standing about 5 foot, 8 inches.
Police are also examining video from the gas station’s security camera. He was wearing a long-sleeved blue shirt.
“The suspect was likely a fare that he head picked up”, said Radtke.

Police dogs were brought in to track down the suspect’s scent. “It did lead them eastbound on Franklin and into the local community”. “Hopefully they will find something”, said Yellow Cab supervisor Haroutioun Kantzabedian. Anyone with information on the case was urged to contact the LAPD.
