California unemployment rate ticks downward to 5.3 percent
The Labor Department says Kentucky saw its unemployment rate fall to 5.3 per cent in April, down from 5.6 per cent in March.

The state released the seasonally adjusted, preliminary jobs estimates from the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics as part of its April Monthly Employment Report.
Nonfarm jobs in California totaled 16,381,500 in April, an increase of 59,600 jobs over the month, according to a survey of businesses that is larger and less variable statistically.
The construction and mining supersector gained 2,400 jobs, a 4.2 percent increase; professional and business services increased by 0.5 percent with 1,100 jobs added and financial activities gained 700 jobs, also a 0.5 percent increase.
There were 27,100 fewer unemployed persons and 404,000 more employed persons over the year compared to April of 2015. An estimated 300 jobs were added in leisure and hospitality industries. But the gains were offset by losses in trade, transportation and utilities and health care and social assistance.
Job growth statewide in April was a robust 59,600, up sharply from the 5,200 jobs added in March. Prior to April, the number had fallen by about 2,150 workers since January.
From April 2015 to April 2016, Virginia’s seasonally adjusted total non-farm employment increased by 83,400 jobs.
The New England unemployment rate averaged 4.4 percent.
“Every aspect of this month’s jobs data reflects positively on Alabama’s economy”, Governor Robert Bentley said in a press release.
The national unemployment rate is 5.0 percent.
Glenn County saw 8.2 percent unemployment, or 1,080 people.
The state’s unemployment rate registers higher than the overall USA unemployment rate of 5 percent, which stayed flat in April.

The state continued to outpace the country in job growth, adding 450,200 jobs since April 2015. Molokai followed with the second highest unemployment rate by island at 5.9 percent, up three-tenths of a percent from the month prior.
