The fast-moving fire near Ventura prompting mandatory evacuations in the area, as well as the temporary closure of Highway 101.
The fire burnt through around 1,500 acres of land, triggering closures and mandatory evacuations in the area.
A brush fire that occurred in north of Ventura near the Pacific Coast Highway left 1,200 acres burned, and it continues to menace thousands of home.
The Ventura County Fire Department said some 400 firefighters made great progress against the wind-driven blaze yesterday and have stopped its forward spread.
Parked on a closed US Highway 101, a Santa Barbara County Fire Department fire engine and crew douse a hot spot while working a Solimar wildfire in Ventura County, Calif. on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2015.
The fire started about 11 p.m. on Friday near Ventura, and strong winds as high as 50 miles per hour and dry vegetation caused it to grow rapidly, fire officials said.
In a heavy rain, the denuded soil could threaten nearby railroad tracks, USA 101 and the Pacific Coast Highway.
“We still have some steep terrains that are challenging us to get the line all the way around the fire, and that of course is dependent on the weather”, he said. About 335 firefighters from multiple agencies remained on scene, down from 600-plus on Saturday as threats to homes and other structures receded.
The 1,236-acre brush fire that raged on Saturday at Solimar Beach was about 70 percent contained on Sunday morning, and evacuation orders for Solimar Beach residents were lifted. The Red Cross has opened a shelter in the area as firefighters work to save homes near Solimar Beach. Both the sides of the scenic 101 highway were closed overnight from State Route 33 to State Route 150.

The Ventura County Fire Department reported that the fire was initiated when private power lines fell on an oil lease property.
