The fire started around 10:30 p.m. Friday, burning about 100 acres in the 3000 block of West Pacific Coast Highway.

The California Highway Patrol shut down a stretch of the Pacific Coast Highway, the northbound 101 Freeway at Highway 33, the southbound 101 Freeway at Bates Avenue, and the Union Pacific Railroads.

One state park campground remains closed. Authorities urged caution for those using Highway 150 as an alternate because of heavy traffic.

The highway, a major roadway in the region, may reopen in the afternoon, fire and police officials said.

Earlier in the day, fire officials described the blaze as “dynamic”, and warned that even if the road reopened it could be closed again if the flames changed direction or speed of growth.
