California wildfires burn near Los Angeles and Big Sur
Residents evacuate over 300 homes in Santa Clarita due to a brush fire that broke out along the northbound Antelope Valley Freeway in Santa Clarita, California, and continued to burn Saturday morning with no recent containment by firefighters. No structures were immediately threatened.

The fire erupted Friday afternoon in the Sand Canyon area near State Route 14 as the region was gripped by triple-digit heat and very low humidity levels.
An out-of-control wildfire is eating up thousands of acres of land outside of Los Angeles and hundreds of firefighters are still battling the raging flames by land and air.
The Los Angeles Fire Department sent a water-dropping helicopter to assist in the firefight and fixed-wing firefighting aircraft were summoned.
The fire was zero percent contained as of about 3:30 p.m. Temperatures in the area are in the triple digits.
Evacuations include all residents in the Sand Canyon area from Lost Canyon Road to Robinson Ranch Golf Course; all residents in Placerita Canyon from the Placerita Canyon Nature Center to Sand Canyon Road; and Little Tujunga Canyon Road from Bear Divide to the Los Angeles River Ranger District Station, 12371 Little Tujunga Canyon Road. The Wildlife Waystation was evacuated Saturday and requested help from nearby residents to assist in moving as numerous wild animals as possible.
A smoke advisory was issued through midnight Sunday for the San Fernando, San Gabriel and Santa Clarita valleys, the San Gabriel Mountains, the Pomona/Walnut Valley, and the central Los Angeles area, as smoke from the fire drifted southeast toward Los Angeles. Suburban Pasadena and Glendale closed their municipal pools because of smoke and falling ash. Tripp said the Los Angeles fire chief was ready to join the incident command, and 15 strike teams were put on alert in case flames made a push in that direction. “We’ll continue our same attack”. If it approaches homes, we’ll have firefighters in place. An excessive heat warning and a red flag warning are now in effect.
“It’s certainly a risky combination for critical fire weather”.

An evacuation center was set up at Golden Valley High School, 27051 Robert C. Lee Pkwy., in Santa Clarita, and shelter for large animals was available at Agua Dulce Airport, Wayside Jail in Castaic and Pierce College in Woodland Hills.
