Callum Wilson’s goal boosts Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe

Wilshere brought a sense of calmness to the midfield as Bournemouth put pressure on West Brom in the second half and finally got the victor through Callum Wilson in the 79th minute.

Jordon Ibe was also making his presence felt down the right, and after one early foray into the penalty area he had a shot deflected behind by Jonny Evans.

When it seemed the contest was heading for a goalless stalemate, Wilson stepped up and made no mistake to delight the home crowd at Dean Court.

Berahino nearly gave them the lead after 50 minutes, as Galloway’s low cross across the six-yard box was spilled by Boruc to his feet, but the giant Pole somehow smothered the striker’s effort from just two yards out.

Foster did well to keep out Josh King’s improvised effort from a Daniels cross and also pushed Wilson’s low drive wide.

Bournemouth had dominated possession, although West Brom had created the better chances, when Wilshere was called upon after 63 minutes.

A deft finish from Callum Wilson in the 79th minute gave Bournemouth a deserved first victory of the Premier League campaign, and the England international’s influence from the bench made a mark on the manager.

After a quiet window, West Brom have gone into the new campaign with just a handful of attacking options to choose from, so it seems very hard to imagine that Robson-Kanu will not get plenty of chances this season.

Head coach Tony Pulis has said he never considered leaving West Brom – despite the club’s failure to land some of his preferred transfer targets this summer.

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe was delighted after his side picked up their first league win of the season, reserving special praise for Boruc.
